CHECK THE CHIP.

1 in 3 pets are lost. 88% are NEVER found.

The system meant to bring missing pets home is broken. We’re the ones fixing it.

Peeva explosive growth

It all started with a stolen dog.

Peeva’s origin began with a childhood heartbreak: the theft of founder Michael Hamilton’s dog, who was never found. Years later, Michael discovered a systemic flaw when his own newly microchipped pet wasn’t scanned during an emergency visit to an out-of-town vet.

The reason? A fractured industry comprised of over 40 disconnected registries and incompatible scanners.

To fix this, Michael partnered with the Academic Chairs of the Graduate Schools of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science at the University at Buffalo. After financing a comprehensive root-cause analysis of the industry’s failures, he developed a unified solution designed to ensure no pet is ever left behind again.

The Tech Problem

When it comes to technology, numerous options exist yet these numbers remain stuck. This is a massive issue for pet owners nationwide. Microchips should be the perfect fix as they’re permanent and reliable, but the current system simply isn’t working.

The Data Problem

For decades, the pet recovery industry has been plagued by fragmentation. With manufacturers using competing frequencies and closed databases, the industry has become a ‘data desert.’ > When a shelter worker scans a lost pet, they often hit a dead end. They may be using a scanner incompatible with that specific chip, or they find a number with no way to identify which of the dozens of registries holds the owner’s contact details. It is a manual, time-consuming scavenger hunt that most busy clinics simply cannot afford to manage.

The 'Good Enough' Problem.

We don't sugarcoat the facts. Most pet recovery systems fail because they're fragmented.

  • The Scanner Gap: If a shelter doesn’t have a universal reader, your pet’s chip is basically invisible.
  • Improper Registration: Unless a microchip is enrolled to the pet owner directly in a database that is actively searched backed by required telephone and infrastructure support- the microchip is worthless
  • “Free” Registry Scams: Many free registries are just data-harvesting holes that don’t actually help a vet or shelter find you in an emergency.
  • The Lookup Loop: Tools like the AAHA Pet Microchip lookup offers registry participation to anyone and everyone without any clear vetting out process like that had in the past which leads to dead ends as there are no actual pet recovery services being performed of any kind.

The Peeva Difference: Real Tech, Real Wins.

Standardizing Pet Recovery

Peeva aims to fix the broken system by building both data infrastructure and hardware that works universally. We’ve spent years building a critical mass of data and the hardware to read it. We didn’t just make another chip; we made a way to standardize the whole industry.

  • UNIVERSAL SCANNING: Peeva reads all microchips- any chip brand and any frequency. Period.
  • MEDICAL RECORDS INTEGRATION: Microchip ID numbers are paired with medical history, speeding up vet intake and care. We’re the only organization in the world that does this and it cuts vet intake time by 40%—which is life-saving in an emergency.
  • SOS ALERTS: From their dashboards, pet owners can send out an alert to every pet care professional there is within 50 miles of wherever their pet was last seen.
  • INSTANT SCAN NOTIFICATIONS: When your pet is scanned, you get a notification with their exact location immediately. No waiting, no guesswork.

The Mission Continues.

From hosting microchip pop-ups to providing shelters with the tech they actually need, we’re doing the work the “big guys” won’t. We’re pet owners, engineers, and advocates who are sick of the status quo not doing enough.
