Pet Microchip Companies, Registries, and Pet Recovery Service Providers
A microchip will only work if it’s registered to the pet owner directly with a legitimate pet recovery service that distributes microchips to various Pet Care Professionals and provides a database or “registry” where pet owners can enroll their pets for a nominal fee to cover the scope of services they provide. For a microchip to work, it also has to provide an adequate team of pet care professionals that are available at all times of the day to facilitate the prompt return of any animal found to be enrolled with their database. This could mean the matter of life or death depending on the shelter where a pet turns up.
A good rule of thumb is to enroll your pet with the “Pet Recovery Service” that distributed your pet’s microchip.
If a “registry” doesn’t distribute microchips, or employ the adequate level of support required then it really has no value or any business trying to play in this space. With more and more “registries coming in and going out of existence just as quick, Pet owners and pet care professionals alike are unsure where to register a microchip or where to look to find one that is registered.
